We have all heard of how nearly every occasion people go to FundMe to ask for money to help pay for funerals, medicine, health care, things that are essential to survive and end up funded by other people.

So what is happening is that there is no system in place, funded by our taxes, our efforts, to help these people in need, and yet they are mostly, not always, helped by others in the community.

What does this say about government? About Welfare? About our society? Have we failed in our care and consideration of others? Do we now have a system not fit for purpose? Are we outsourcing the support of the less fortunate to the private sector because we no longer care?

We can afford it, because people are paying directly out of their own pockets, so why don’t we pay through our governments? Pay through our taxes? Or do we now need to know exactly where our money is going just in case someone we deem unworthy gets a few dollars they shouldn’t have in our judgement? Do we now need to punish thousands because maybe a few people get benefits we think they don’t deserve? Do we say we wont help those on the sinking ship because a couple of people are able to swim away? Is that the world we live in?

I have to say it is. We would sit and watch people drown, in fact we actually do, because helping everyone is unacceptable. Welfare must be limited in case someone gets help who doesn’t need it. So many must suffer, in case someone has it too easy. That’s the world we live in now. If you don’t believe me, go look at who is asking for help on FundMe.

There was a time when Welfare might have been there for them, when government, when our taxes, might have been used to help them not suffer, not die. But not anymore. We’re more educated, more enlightened now. We call that progress.”
