The purpose of modern welfare is to drive you off welfare.

It’s not, despite what politicians and the business world says, to get you employed.

Any honest decent human being will admit there is no damn way anyone on welfare can afford to maintain a decent enough life to get any sort of job, but as said, that isn’t the point.

Modern welfare is the decaying remains of a mid 20th Century ideal of actually caring for and supporting those who need help in unfortunate circumstances.

Now, in more modern enlightened times, we know that anyone who can’t get a well-paying job is just weak and useless and should be shuffled out of the way of the rest of us.

I mean that is what you think of your kids when they can’t get a job don’t you? Or your neighbour who worked decades in the auto industry only to have the business collapse due to a leveraged buyout that became untenable once the debt came due? How about your sibling that spent half a decade in study for a career that no longer is tenable due to the casualisation of their entire industry?

But they should be able to do better than welfare, they’re not like THOSE people. I mean they’re better, more deserving, aren’t they? Or are they all the same?

Being used and abused by a capitalist system that is designed to drain the profits from everything it touches, be it you, me, your family, their health, their education, their very need to eat and breathe.

We are all equal in the eyes of the almighty EBIT. Either we are profitable or not.

And if not, well, you know what happens.

Modern Welfare.
