What you have to understand is that some people look on the facts of being human, being a part of a species that has developed mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, literature, philosophy, that has developed sciences that have advanced humanity beyond the simple horse and cart, that has leapt beyond the simple short lives we lived in ancient times, some people look on this and say we are simply a basic one thing or another.
You are either masculine or feminine, boy or girl. That is it.
A species capable of the enormous variety of science, of discovery, of the written word, of languages developed across the centuries and the planet, a species wondrous in its variety, is as simple as pink or blue.
And many of these people who simplify our identities, our complexity, also seek to simplify the world, simplify our lives.
They would drain the colour, the vibrancy of our world, deny the potential of discovery, restrain the human soul of wanting to be more, wanting to be true, wanting to discover all that is possible both inside and outside ourselves.
And yet they will use all these products of the searching mind, the unrestrained intellect, they will accept the discoveries, the technologies, the medicines, all the things open minds have found and developed to make our lives easier and longer.
They accept the results but deny the nature of minds not restricted by simplistic narrow thinking, minds that looked on the universe and were open to its complexity, its potential, its vast possibilities waiting for us to embrace them.
Human beings are not simple creatures, not just another species meant to produce offspring and nothing more.
We are the artists, the scientists, the dreamers and the dream.
We are a kaleidoscope of chaos, a multitude of difference yet similar in need.
Our ability to be different, to exist across a broad spectrum of thought, imagination, interest and identity, makes us able to move beyond all that was before, to learn, to advance, to discover futures we barely dream of.
Variety is the spice of life.
Those who would make it bland, will only hold us back, from being all that we can be.
Let their words, their fears, their terror at the beauty of our imagination, fade into obscurity, like all those dull minds before them.
