Do you love your kids? That is the question that they ask you when they want to make you afraid of one thing or another. The better question is “Do you accept your child?”

Do you accept that your child doesn’t like Strawberry’s?

Do you accept that your child likes dark chocolate and not milk chocolate?

Do you accept that your child isn’t into sports?

Do you accept your child isn’t masculine?

Do you accept your child isn’t feminine?

Do you accept that your child doesn’t like to be around people?

Do you accept that your child doesn’t feel okay being who they appear to be?

Do you accept your child isn’t heterosexual?

Do you accept your child is nonbinary?

Do you accept your child is an individual human being? Different from you in ways that you may not understand, but are intrinsic to who they are and their future happiness and existence?

You see it isn’t just if you love your child, that is far too simple. You have to be willing to love your child no matter how different they are to what you expected. Because they are your child. That is unconditional. And your love of them, your care and support, should be unconditional too.
