Look, we all recognise that in many ways the majority of the comfortable in the world are decent people, but their lives, their very existence, is built upon a system of inequality, of built in areas of poverty, of unemployment, of homelessness, so that profits and affluence can exist. It’s not that they actively build or contribute to poverty and its affects, it’s just that they don’t do anything significantly out of their comfort zones to make things better.
They can donate money, they can attend protests, post on social media, vote for the lesser evils, but the system that makes their lives comfortable, gives them the freedom that many don’t have, is the system that must be changed in ways that the people with the most influence will never accept.
And in many ways it’s in everyone’s best interest to ignore this fact.
So you can’t change the world, because the world, as it is, isn’t prepared for how much it needs to change.
How do you get the world to basically eliminate the billionaire class when so many have gained so much from their existence?
Money and power are insidious, but they don’t directly rule everyone.
Faced directly with the suffering of others most people will instinctually do the right thing and offer a helping hand, but give them enough time to remember what they’ve been taught by media and popular culture, steered by most of the same people that have gotten rich from being the way they are.
Basically you need to deprogram the comfortable classes into seeing the truth of what money and power really is, and how little it actually cares about them, and would happily sacrifice all of them for a couple of percentage points on a P&L.
