What if we could build a new society? One where women, girls, gender diverse voices, were more prominent, more powerful, more in control.
What if our first principles were the freedom from abuse, persecution, vilification, sexualisation of anyone who isn’t a straight cis male?
What if we, as a species, not only frowned upon, but actively shamed and discouraged any action that demeaned or diminished the individual that was different in sexuality, in identity, in colour or kin to the White Western World that has become prevalent in our modern 20th Century Media culture?
And when I say 20th Century we all know that the standard idea of Western Culture is the late 20th Century idea, brought to every corner of the world by the behemoth of the Blockbuster Film and its all pervading presence.
We all know what I mean, and we all know how little it has changed, and how in most of its forms, how it represents anyone who is not a straight white cis male.
Just because ten films out of ten thousand, twenty shows out of two million, happen to not be full to the brim of white cis men at the forefront doesn’t mean things have changed enough that the fight is over.
Gaining two percent leaves ninety-eight percent of the representation exactly the same to the historical power structures that got us where we are today. Where gay bashing is still something people know of, where lynching is something that can still happen, and where domestic violence kills women and children far too often.
And then there is the war on Trans people. One Trans person commits a crime and they want to punish all Trans people.
One straight white man kills his wife and kids and he was a kind family man who must have just snapped. Like the five hundred before him.
But what if we could do something different, change the way the world works, give everyone else the power to be who they are, love who they love, and defend each other and everyone else from the centuries of abuse, violence, demonisation, vilification and dehumanisation that has supported the targeting of minorities throughout the history of our species.
What if we could?
